In conclusion, always use weapons on creatures bigger than a minotaur. One Giant Bat attacked me once. Killed a herbalist and got a steel bolt to the face. Even bone bolts will do against Bats. With enough men firing.
Experimented wrestlers are also efficient. My current fort is plagued with giant bats, that have killed several civilians and recruits, but none of the soldiers from my wrestlers army.
