This for is actually quite visually appealing for some reason. Nice work.
Pretty sure that they do not. The mechanisms might melt when they're pulled up if they're not magma safe, but then again they might not.

I imagine your hunter would have stepped in the magma.
You should deconstruct your wagon: your dwarves will treat it as a meeting area until you do, and keep getting eaten by the carp. Nice for otherwise, the entrance being in a hill near a bend in the river feels good, for some reason.
Something (probably the crossbow) is probably forbidden on your marksdwarves.

Ah. I've always worked on the principle that they grow up randomly, and thus more will be spawned if there's less trees there already taking up room. So i usually just clear cut the entire map every year or two.
