View / ReplySubmitted by: Genuine - 2007-12-11The towers (particularly the detailed one) were carved straight from the cliffs. I used a "controlled collapse" method to get rid of the outside of the cliffs and get them in the shape that I want, which is done by simply digging a long stairway up the area I want to dig out, digging out all the stone on each of the floors, making channels around the area I'm going to collapse with a single dwarf, and then putting a support at the bottom connected to a lever which is pulled after removing the supporting staircase. |

As such, smooth over everything until you get a legendary engraver, then have him/her detail it all. Because you only need one dwarf to do this, it is a very efficient way to increase your wealth quickly. |

View / ReplySubmitted by: Genuine - 2007-08-26I like the ring you put in, and was thinking of doing something like that when the next version comes out because 8-directional movement will be implemented, making it so that dwarves do not lose time having to make numerous extra horizontal and vertical movements. |

Megaproject 2c: Main Concourse, Tombs
This shows the tombs which are situated 1-3 levels above the Main Concourse. All along the Concourse are groups of three tombs - each tomb houses the sarcophagus of a dead dwarf, a masterwork golden statue, a cage with a captive goblin, often a totem made out of the skull of an enemy, sometimes the corpses of trusted wardogs who fell in battle. The walls are always engraved right after the death of its 'owner'. Later during the fort I did add notes with the name, date and reason of death to each new tomb. 106 dwarves did die during this forts lifetime - none were killed by goblins or the like for the last 40 years or so but I had quite a share of caveins, drownings and the usual brilliant stupidity. - TanSerrai
