I'll eventually cover those in glass, once that industry is up and going.

No, unfortunately the alchemist requires glass vials. Not that I really need an alchemist...

About your windmill... It seems like it's hooked up okay. If you get information about it (or the gears) using 'q', does it tell you how much power is needed and available?

It's possible you have no wind here. See http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Windmill section "When it works". I don't know if there's a way to test for wind aside from actually building the windmill.

I like the layout of a number of areas around the fort, and your technique (undiggable dig designations) to help lay things out is a good idea.
I like the look you get by leaving extra space between groups of rooms: makes everything seem more solid. :)

At the time I generated this map, I had around 90 dwarves or so, the highest I've ever had. Also new to me was the arrival of the Dungeon Master.

I'm finding it a little difficult to keep all these dwarves occupied. The tower concept is fun, but I'm not sure how I want to expand particular industries... for instance, if I wanted two stills and double the prepared food storage... Should I keep digging down? Dig out?

I haven't even put in beds for all these dwarves and I have to ask these questions...
