How pressure plates connected to doors work.
The two plates on the left are triggered by water at 0-5; note that they start triggered. The two plates on the right are triggered by water at 6-7; note that they start untriggered.
Each plate is linked to the door at the bottom of its lane. A lever is also linked to one door from each type of plate, and thrown at the beginning of the experiment to initialize those doors to being open.
Water is allowed onto the plates.
The closed door with a 0-5 plate stays closed.
The open door with a 0-5 plate closes when its plate untriggers.
The closed door with a 6-7 plate opens when its plate triggers.
The open door with a 6-7 plate stays open.
Water is then drained from the lanes with open doors, which are the 6-7 plates, by enabling the drainage pumps. The 6-7 plates untrigger and close their doors.
Water is then drained from the lanes with closed doors, which are the 0-5 plates, by opening the drainage hatches. The 0-5 plates trigger and open their doors.
After the water was introduced into the system, there was no difference in behavior between the doors which were linked to the lever and those which were not. -
