Fortress: Fenceskull _nil_

6. Dining hall

The blue table is an raw admantine artifact worth 728,000 and named "The Snarling Sound." The statue is one of my first artifacts, a fire imp bone statue. The rest is high quality obsidian. Green lever on the left is for the auxiliary entrance, red one of the right opens the spiral road bridges. The levers at the top left control the water gate, while the one just below them drop the champions at the top of the road.

The prepared food stockpile is one level down.

7. Throne room

Artifact green glass chair, one artifact millstone, imported native platinum block supports, and a nicely placed patch of native aluminum floor. Ever since the death of Mad King Vabok, this has belonged to the Duchess.

18a. Old town

Here my founders enjoy personal palaces, while other important and old legendary civilians live along side them. The founders also have storage rooms and a small tomb beneath their multi-room dwellings.

18. Residencial city

The dwarves of Fenceskull live in towers that rise out of a lake in a gigantic underground cavern connected by walkways made of green glass.. The ovals on the left are "inns" (i.e., booze storage with some beds). The towers to the north and south of the rectangular "old town" house most of the civilians.

18b. Noble estates

This structure houses the bedroom of many noble children and of the duchess. The latter has a double bed made up of two raw adamantine artifact beds. Just to the north there's a similar structure housing the duke consort and his dining room.

19. Zuglari estate and 'fairground'

To the west sits the personal fortress of the Zuglari family. The family patriarch is Zuglar Flagmoistened the Death of Feet, commander of the Walled Counselors and the oldest melee warrior. He has 62 named kills and wields Strangerbeasts, a bone mace that was the first artifact in Fenceskull. His kills include Mad King Vabok, who was lured by adamintine, then driven to a berzerk rage because his bedroom wasn't ready. Zuglar proclaimed a republic under his wife Lorbam, who would now be known as the governor, although the construction of the Zuglari estate was the only thing that really changed. Some of Zuglar's 7 adult children--most of which are champions--live in bedrooms around the atrium. I eventually want to have his whole family in here, but I might need to expand it to fit in all 17 and counting.

Every few years, I build several shops on the open space to the east. Since Fenceskull has a dozen general stores and clothing shops, these all end up as exotic and craft shops. The dwarves are free to shop at the 'fair' while I rebuild the regular shops; to keep the balance, they will come back as clothing and general stores. Then I tear down the useless shops, and enjoy having twice as many good shops in the same amount of space. Underneath are the tree farms. They are full because I barely need wood anymore.

The floodgate in the center is a raw adamantine artifact.

Failed obsidian factory

The levers one level up control the floodgates and the bridges. Unfortunately, the bridges keep the floor on the second level from being excavated, which then keeps water from the reaction. Might be easier just to build another, more effective design, elsewhere. At least we have enough to make some swords.
