Fortress: Fenceskull _nil_

5a. Plant processing

This level produces food and booze for Fenceskull, as well as its chief export--plant fiber crafts. To the south are extensive stockpiles, eventually, the metalworks. Finally got this level to stop looking like a penis, horray!

5b. Animal processing

Here is where Fenceskull's bone carvers, butchers, and leatherworkers ply their trades. It also holds the gym. The levels below are mostly furniture stockpiles.

19a. Old well

The original well, kept here for historical value despite its lousy location.

Strange "open space" from ice cave-in

A couple years back, I had a strange cave-in kill a legendary, destroy a bridge on level 18 and punch through the floor on levels 14, 15, and 16. At the time I couldn't figure out what had happened, but after finding this--a square marked as "open space" in 'k' but with a raw marble wall underneath--I'm now pretty sure I know. Water released from the swimming pool drain reservoir/well was at a sufficient depth somewhere to freeze, creating a solid square of ice. Apparently it was unsupported and then caved in, destroying the bridge, the dwarf, and several tiles. The strange thing here is that I still can't figure out exactly where this could have happened, as I am positive it only destroyed one bridge yet that tile is supported until above level 19. The only answer I can think of is that a tile created on level 22 somehow didn't destroy the bridge there. Perhaps ice can freeze into floors at a certain depth and collapsing floors don't destroy bridges built over them? That would explain level 13--maybe it was a raw ice floor but melted in the following summer, forcing the game to come up with the strange floor/not floor for that tile. Or maybe I'm missing something obvious?

stately pleasure dome

this disk-like tower houses the statue garden, which in turn hosts an raw adamantine artifact statue. the blue floors are also made of adamantine ore.

because it is above ground, any parties can be canceled by ordering dwarves indoors.

penthouse apartments in the residencial district

the bedrooms on this level are reserved for only the most important dwarves--former leaders, mostly--and all of the rooms in this cavern are intended for Sparkgear's elite. although I haven't placed all of it, there should be almost enough high quality furniture for the whole district sitting in the mason shop below. enough of it is encrusted with shell to finish off the top story.

mayoral digs

this bedroom and dining room / office provide what will some day be a delightful riverside view through the gem windows. the current occupant, Brak, was re-elected just a few months ago.

those who call this desecration would stand in the way of both progress and democracy! also you might want to try replacing the holes in the level below with floodgates, with the right color they blend in pretty well.

deathbringer central

the shared bedroom for a new military squad. didn't realize how valuable the gold vein would be going in; even split 8 ways the bedrooms were the best in the fort until I put an adamantine statue in the mayor's room.

re: Gas Mask Man

that's actually just my blueprint for the different levels of the statue garden dome; any resemblance to any persons living or dead is purely co-incidental.

I definitely see what you mean though.

Fountain Hall

The public dining hall. It has a bad-ass fountain and an exceptional raw adamantine statue. Traffic from outside has to pass through here to get to most of the fort. To the east there is an older dining hall, currently serving as the mayor's office. To the southwest, a small administrator's office, currently used by Demonic Spoon.

Outer Courtyard

Most workshops are here right now, as are the farms and many important stockpiles. The statue garden tower rises above it.

Fortress: Fenceskull _nil_

Cathedral of the Demonslayer (spoiler?)

Fenceskull's holiest of holies, it boasts a high vaulted ceiling, an elevated pulpit (currently occupied by Zuglar the Regicide), and, at the moment, a substancial supply of demon corpses and goo. I was hoping to get spirits of fire, who might have caused enough casualties in both the military and the civilians (who were watching from the pews during the battle) to provoke a tantrum spiral nasty enough to bring the fortress to a sufficiently dramatic conclusion. Sadly, though, they were just frog demons and my dwarves mowed through them without a single casualty.

The totems are all exceptional or better, and are all from sentient enemies.

Tomb of the Earthstriker

Hidden behind a pile of rubble and horse skull totems, this tomb was made for the founding miner of Fenceskull, Urvad the Earthstriker, just before he released the demons in case he did not survive (he did). Every piece of furniture and more than half of the engravings are encrusted with a depiction of Urvad ascending to the leadership of Fenceskull on its first year.
