Map Description:

A temporary fortress and the start of something bigger. I built my first river-fed overhead irrigation system, as demonstrated (at least partially) here.

Δ 56. Indoor Irrigation - Upstairs
I struggled with this one for a while for fear of my dwarf dying but I had completely overlooked the fact that my brook freezes over every winter. It made digging this irrigation system a breeze.

Each of the switches has a different purpose; the one at the Southeast position toggles both floodgates. The one at the southwest position toggles the south floor hatch. The one at the northwest toggles the north floor hatch. It's a weird process but by closing everything, opening the flood gates, filling the reservoirs, closing the flood gates and opening the floor hatches, you can irrigate 7 squares for every one in your reservoir. Δ 55. Indoor Irrigation - Downstairs
Now you see that beneath the reservoirs are empty rooms large enough to contain all the water, very thinly spread out, across most of the room. After dumping water onto the floor, that ground is now viable for farming. - Sevvie
