Map Description:

Year 30 is in progress. The main cause of death is now old age, population however is growing via natural briths.

The noble tower is cast, mined out and engraved. The queens retinue has arrived, however, the queen herself is absent??? Major projects now are some suitable walls, reorganisation of the military and digging out most of the surface of the map.

Wow this i s gigantic !! good idea to build a bridge to protect the fortification !! brilliant work.. how old is you fortress ?

It's now 21 years old (started in year 200). Thanks, I can't remember where I came across the use of bridges to protect Marksdwarves, but given the amount of damage a couple of elite missile goblins can do it's proven very useful in the past!

I like how the trap walkway reduces into supports the further down you go.

62. North accumulator tower

Hydraulic accumulator to provide water for various repeaters and latches in the engineering guild. Underground so will not freeze. A larger southern accumulator is planned to allow for year round power for the fortress (rivers regularly freaze for 2 months of winter). - mounf
68. Fortress overview

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
The location of the fortress. To the east 2 streams plunge 24 z-levels into the river over a shear precipice. The area enclosed by the inner walls is to be entirely excavated, exposing the fortress.

221 - The excavation of the Northern part of the fortress has begun. 3 layers of soil has proven ideal for training our new miners. - mounf
68. Main entrance

( 221 Late Summer to 280 Early Spring )
The main entrance descends into the ground from here. This is protected by a large archery/watch tower which is usually not dwarfed as it is better to engage attackers deeper into the entrance defences. The bridge and trap corridoor east of the entrance were used during construction and are now only rarely used for cleanup. One level up is a coridoor containing pastured hunting dogs over green glass grates to detect ambushers and thieves as they pass below. - mounf

231 - Part of the cast obsidian noble tower, the Queens throne room is now mined out and engraved. Suitable furniture is being encrusted with gems. Above are the queens suite, below the nobles quarters. - mounf
59. Walkway of pointy death.

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
Entrance defence for the main entrance. Drawbridges can be used to divert enemies across the walkway which may be equipped with a few spike traps. The cavern below will most likely contain magma to help avoid needing to much cleanup. Archery galleries cover the walkway.

221 - The area below now contains magma for ease of clean up. Conveniently the entrance drawbridge is ~20 range from the marksdwarf fortifications with the unintended consequence that elite ranges attackers tend to stop and stand on it to attack my marksdwarves. One quick lever toggle then solves the problem... - mounf
57. Glass works

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
The main hall of the glass works. Main product is green glass blocks for roofing various buildings. Many more will be required yet!

Below this level are the magma reservoirs for the glass furnaces, bag storage, sand, pearlash and rock crystal stockpiles. - mounf
55. Craftsdwarfs and masons guilds.

The craftsdwarfs and masons guilds have been moved down several levels during a redisign and split into 2 towers. Craftsdwarfs to the left and masons to the right. - mounf
53. Metalworkers guild forge halls

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
The West and East forge halls of the metalworkers guild. In between is the Gold/Steel stockpile. further stockpiles are located on the various levels with the smelting hall a few levels below. The basements contain various sorting stockpiles to allow quick finding and melting of inferior work.

52. Military tower

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
The military tower contains the barracks, armour and weapon stockpiles and archery ranges. Plans are being considered for a swimming pool. South of the tower is the main entrance of the fort, currently under construction. - mounf
50. The clothiers guild

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
Containing the cloth industry of WatchDiamonds, Looms, dyers and clothes-makers. The leather working building is immediately to the south and both share output stock piles located several levels below. - mounf
50. Welcoming hall

( 221 Late Summer to 280 Early Spring )
Provides a welcome area for the unwelcome. 3 levels up bridges can be opened to drop a layer of magma into this area, eliminating threats and greatly simplifying cleanup. magma can then be drawn off through the fortifications to the east and pumped up to the reset magma reservoir ready for re-use. - mounf
49. Burial towers and tombs of the founders

( 221 Late Summer to 280 Early Spring )
The North tower is reserved for burial of any dwarf who dies on active military service or who has achieved recognition for weapon skills. The south tower is similar for civilians. This level contains the tombs of the founding seven (5 civil, 2 military), as of 221 only 1 is occupied! - mounf
47. Catacomb

( 221 Late Summer to 280 Early Spring )
The burial site for those dwarfs who have not achieved recognition for there craftsdwarfship or martial deeds. There is also space below for notable enemies and caravan guards/merchants. Suitable statues to be added to each alcove at a later date. - mounf
45. Prison

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
The prison currently has room for 4 criminals, with expansion space for another 4 available. High quality furnishings should assist with the rehabilitation of prisoners. The Captain of the guards quarters are next to the prison, overlooking the main hall. - mounf
44. Dining Hall

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
The Great dining hall of Watch Diamonds. Here dwarfs can eat in the comforting glow of magma. South of the great halls are the farms, kitchens and stills. To the North ramps lead up to the Skyway and the industrial district. - mounf
42. New Hospital

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
The new hospital is split across multiple levels. Shown is the main level wards, with space for 12 dwarfs. Abover this is the doctors quarters, the 2 levels below hold the stockpile and water cistern. - mounf
39. Kitchens/Brewery

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
The forts main kitchen and brewery are located south of the main hall cellars. Above them are the farming layers (consisting of 3 layers of soil caved in from above). - mounf
39. Power hall

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 )
The water wheels in the power hall provide sufficient power for the pump stacks whilst the river is not frozen. An auxiliary system (probably utilising a reservoir) will be needed for the winter months. - mounf
25. Old magma works

( 215 Early Autumn to 250 Early Spring )
This was the original location of the magma works. These have now been moved to the metalsmiths and glassmakers guild buildings, leaving only the ceramics works. - mounf
