Alright, I've got to give up on my Hospital's reservoir.
First Problem: I discovered it freezes over despite being enclosed. Solution: Pumpstack to build a lava-heater.
Problem: It didn't work. Solution:Retrofitted a stirrer pump to make the lava move rather than be solid 7/7, and it melts the ice.
Problem: Magma heater doesn't stop the freezing, just melts the ice, meaning it still breaks the walls. Solution: Move the wells up a z-level, bring in a miner to break the crust every so often.
Problem: The water in the well-buckets also freezes and becomes unusable. Solution: curse, swear, abandon attached reservoir and dig tunnel to other working well
