Rockschucked - 1053 Early Spring by Phrog

Map Description:

Things are starting to chug along. No migrants or fey moods, thankfully. Dwarven merchants came from the south, but as long as the humans don't come from the east or west trading will be very easy.

The map is basically throwing trees at me. I've got most of the outer fortress wall up and soon it will be roofed and split off into rooms. Making progress!

Unlucky, you picked a site with an aquifer, not great. How are you finding the z-levels?

The z-levels are not nearly as daunting as I first thought. It was harder making stairs work than navigating around. I knew there was an aquifer going in, but I had no idea that it would be this crazy. There is literally nothing but clay and loam as far as I can tell on the map, but at least it makes for easy farming. It's actually fun doing things this way. There are enough trees to build a tower I'm planning, especially if I trade in stone and other materials for the loads of shell and bone I'm generating from the plentiful fishing in the area.

Aww hell naw. I just got 17 migrants. I hope they like sleeping on the ground.

Oh, they do. They love it.

Sorry if you already know this, but just to make sure: You are aware that there will be plenty of rock further down, right? Yeah, the aquifer (I'm only assuming there is one) will slow you down a bit, but there are guides on the wiki (as linked by Markavian) if you need them.

Yeah, I realize this, but I'm actually enjoying making a "gimmick" fort for once seeing how the last fortress I made, Claspedsack, went beautifully but was overwhelmingly vanilla-flavored. I might consider breaching the aquifer later (I'm still learning a bit as I go), but going with the wood thing seems fun, especially with so many trees all over the place.

The only downside is right now I can't really trade for very much since there is very little I can manufacture with all of my wood going to building the central tower.

Oh, I got 7 more migrants too.

I manufacture prepared food to trade with, it sells for quite a high price. Wooden tower is looking good.
