Twolancers - 222 Mid Summer by ryo!

Map Description:

Current population: 231. 75 of which are champions, and 60 are children.

I built a random mica tower to pass the time, then tried building the Lighthouse of Twolancers and Mausoleum of Tadathel (Fath Tadathel is my first ever soldier, and now captain of the guard, spending his life in bed due to a mangled lower spine).

This spring, while my dwarves were building the lighthouse, the elves finally had enough of my tree cutting and trader crushing. So, they sent a couple of ambushes - which, unfortunately, appeared right next to the site of the lighthouse. My dwarves managed to run away (one cleverly hid in the underground passage leading to the small island) while the elves were distracted by a cow, until my military arrived and proceeded to beat the crap out of them (the elves, that is - not the dwarves).

Because of all my constructions, I'm beginning to run low on stone. Well, when I say run low, I mean I have about 9 phyllite, 13 orthoclase, 24 limestone, 40 gypsum, 169 bauxite, 262 gabbro and about 400 microcline. A lot, but most of my constructions use hundreds of stones, so I have a feeling my next (and possible last) construction will be built out of microcline.

Liking the battlements, what is that road made out of leading east?

Submitted by: ryo! - 2008-09-02 to 215 Early Summer

Bauxite, with small microcline roads either side.

I want to see this Colosseum you're building.

A zombie dragon AND a zombie hydra..!? Upload that fight!

And nice map, a lot of neat ideas here.

I think your pyramid needs a gold top.

Also, yay Colosseum!

Woo Gold capped pyramid!

I'd like to see what happens with that temple you're building. Are you going to keep the second floor curved at all?

Are the buildings at the ground z level, northeast corner of your fortress green houses?

Submitted by: pharoah - 2008-09-21 to 221 Early Summer

by the way i love your fortress!

I'm not really going to change the temple at all (Apart from removing the three staircases at the sides).

And those (phyllite) bridges are basically greenhouses - I don't really need them there, but it makes it easier to access the doors to the northeast.

What I think you need is a giant underground construction. You already have loads of aboveground buildings and you are running out of stone, so why not dig out a gigantic pit or other elaborate structure to throw your goblins into. Or even better you could dig out an underground cathedral like this one: Ectosack

(for some reason I can't put a link in the comment, I am sure I used to be able to)

Use the format: [map=3036] for internal links, sorry about that.

...I'm new, so I might be mistaken, but do I see some sort of goblin prison on the surface??

Submitted by: ryo! - 2008-09-29 to 222 Mid Summer

Heh, it's actually the aftermath of a goblin ambush - though sieges always require me to increase the size of my refuse stockpile.

Loved the road :-) when was the fort founded?

Submitted by: ryo! - 2008-10-17 to 226 Early Winter

I can't actually remember, but fortunately my dwarves can - according to the engravings in the fort, Twolancers was founded in the early spring of 212.
