Syrupdwellings - 204 Late Winter by NEO|Phyte

Map Description:

Another DF session, another set of changes, including the end of my fire imps, as I tired of their damned fire-causing ways.

Bit of random trivia: Did you know that every stone item in Syrupdwellings is made of Basalt? Every other type of stone is either economic or dumped into my moat.

Point of Interest: Surface

ah lava moats, is there anything you can't do?

Submitted by: Caranha - 2008-11-06 to 203 Late Winter

Nice little surface fort, but what is all that ash to the southeast?

Submitted by: NEO|Phyte - 2008-11-06 to 204 Mid Spring

That ash is the result of my magma pipe's Fire Imp infestation.

Did the humans start attacking you one day? Or did you piss them off somehow?

Submitted by: Markavian - 2008-11-08 to 205 Mid Summer

Castle with lava moat!

I pissed off the humans, by which I mean I had to put down their guild rep after the guy went berserk. Hopefully any future guild reps they might send will have all limbs accounted for, so they aren't passing out every other step.

I'll need to remember that in case I want to war with humans.

*makes note* kill representative.

are those roads on the outside to keep a clear shot for crossbow dwarves?

Submitted by: NEO|Phyte - 2008-11-15 to 209 Late Spring

Yep.

I just noticed this, but what are you using for your jail cells. They don't look like walls or vertical bars.

Submitted by: NEO|Phyte - 2008-11-15 to 209 Early Autumn

Vertical grates.

Submitted by: Dakira - 2008-11-15 to 209 Early Autumn

AH! I may just steal that from you.

does the moat upgrade do anything practical?

Submitted by: NEO|Phyte - 2009-01-10 to 212 Early Spring

Practical? Not really, unless you count salvaging the iron and steel from those that fell into it.

Suggestion:
Make a dungeon for holding captured goblins. As well, start a fight with the humans and elves, then do the same.

Then, see if the captives make more dungeon dwellers.
After enough bodies exist inside, link the caves together to see if fights break out. Use mechanical and water-based timing mechanisms to limit the interaction.

How many freakin children do you have in your fort?? It looks like you might as well call it neverland ranch. If any of your dwarfs are pedophiles, they are probably super ecstatic. (I pretty sure the necrophiliacs aren't complaining either)

magicdwarf, hahahahahah.

Man, I really like the idea of using grates in your prison. Very original, as far as I'm concerned.

Are the bed clusters in the castle for your soldiers?

Submitted by: NEO|Phyte - 2009-03-26 to 215 Mid Autumn

Yeah, each bed cluster is a barracks, though I've been letting my military sleep in their own beds lately.

Submitted by: Markavian - 2009-06-18 to 215 Early Winter

Leave it on overnight, see how far it gets.

Staircase designations should speed up the excavation of the pillar area, namely, everything gets dug out at once. That way when it's time to channel away the stairs, there is barely any risk of cave in and they can do it without player intervention to save a stupi-dorf.

what you should've done really is just give them a crossbow tbh

Submitted by: NEO|Phyte - 2009-07-20 to 206 Early Autumn

That wouldn't have helped. He was already an Elite Wrestler, he could have hit legendary in every other weapon skill and not become a Champion. Plus, he was a GUARD, meaning I can't tell him to stand somewhere USEFUL with his crossbow.
