• 16. 09. Visitors' Quarters

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  This area houses the countless wild animals i've caught, bought, and bred. The rangers call this their workshop as they manage taming and breeding. The mechanics also store lots of their equipment up here, as they work closely with the rangers in the wilderness to establish trap fields.
  
  Empty cages are stored beside the trap fields in the wilderness so the traps can be reloaded easily.
  
  Oh, the history of these prison cells, though. Suffice it to say there has already been one incident of a dwarf beating and raping a human prisoner, and another where three war dogs traveled across the map and beelined for the human's cell and ate him. They ATE him. He occupied 14 spots in the refuse stockpile because they generated so many XXHuman ChunkXX.
  
  I decided to put the other prisoners safely back in cages for a while while I figure out how to better protect the lives of my visitors! - Noble Digger

• 16. 10. The Rampart

  The Rampart serves as a sparring area and archery range for Cagemerchant's military. Two separate artifact obsidian armor stands declare the grounds of conflict.
  
  The rampart peers into the sole path through the gauntlet below into the fortress yard, so it is highly likely that an armed dwarf will be nearby to watch over anyone traveling through.
  
  It's supposed to be a rough shape reminiscent of a steel helmet. The green metal bars are a nickel-copper alloy I modded into the raws because it was not otherwise possible to have green bars. - Noble Digger

• 16. 18. The Palette

  This flat mountainous obsidian plateau serves as a good place to store rock blocks for construction in the wilderness. - Noble Digger

• 15. 01. The Hall of Mockery

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  The dwarves settle in for meals in these twin obsidian-furnished dining rooms. Five gem windows sparkle in 3 different colors each, and the dwarves can toss scraps at the caged wild beasts alongside the tables.
  
  Through the northern windows are caged invaders such as goblins and kobolds, at whom the dwarves make faces while they enjoy their legendary meals.
  
  To the east and west are masons' workshops leaving a peanut gallery of puppies watching the masons chipping out blocks of stone. - Noble Digger

• 15. 03. The Woodsmithery

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  Since we haven't found magma yet, this workshop houses carpenters', wood furnaces, smelters, and a few smitheries.
  
  These rooms also serve as access to the fort's stockpiles above and below. Metal and charcoal bars, specifically, are kept below, and wood 2 levels above.
  
  The fort is kind of hammered with goblin armor which is stinking up all the stockpiles, but once the furnace is finished I can begin to alleviate that. - Noble Digger

• 15. 04. West Masonary

  Here, four masons and four mechanics keep their workshops. Each shop in this fortress is owned by a single dwarf and his home, office, and dining area are below his workshop.
  
  In the center hallway of each masonary are stairways which lead to four auxiliary bedrooms for kitchen workers and rangers, whose workshops are kept further from the living area.
  
  A large stone stockpile to the rear of the masonary sucks stone away from the depths like a candle wick, placing it at the mercy of the block-making machine. - Noble Digger

• 15. 05. East Masonary

  The east masonary is owned by the fortress' humble bricklayers (mason-engravers who are not also trained as miners) and also houses four craftsdwarves' shops for general use. - Noble Digger

• 15. 06. The Visitors' Lounge

  This is where unscheduled immigrants to the fortress are kept waiting until the fort can provide entertainment and accomodations for them. - Noble Digger

• 15. 07. Traders' Lodge

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  This humble brick building serves as temporary quarters for visiting merchants. It has hatches in its cieling so my dwarves can rain goblin waste down on the intruders in exchange for their fine wares and delicacies from far and wide. Strangely, they leave extremely happy. Go fuckin' figure.
  
  Because I care, the lodge is protected by 8 war dogs and their puppies. The drawbridges to the east and north can be raised during a siege, forcing the invaders into the narrow, trap-riddled hallway to the southeast of this POI, outside the fortress walls. - Noble Digger

• 15. 08. The Rending Deck

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  This smooth block-floored patio bakes under the sun to ensure rapid decay of refuse and easy stripping of flesh from bones. Fire ants visit from the nearby sandy areas to steal morsels of goblin ass.
  
  Eight sheer, square block buildings contain butchers' and tanners' shops offset by alternating blue and yellow pillars. The blue flooring soothes the appearance of blood and the yellow flooring hides the rotten color of tanning solutions. Seriously, tanning is a disgustingly messy profession! - Noble Digger

• 15. 11. Jewelers' Gates

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  These twin rows of pillars mark the entrance from the old caverns leading to the wilderness that once serviced the fortress' waterworks.
  
  Each row of pillars has retractable bronze bars between that can be raised to deny access to intruders. The way is protected by several war dogs and their puppies and a multitude of traps.
  
  The waterworks controls are within the north jewelers' gate while the south only contains its own gate controls. - Noble Digger

• 15. 12. The Lurking Deep

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  The fortress was planned without knowledge of the existence of this deep watery pool, laden with snapping, scratching, crawling creatures. Upon efforts to build a gem vault to the south of the fortress proper, miners detected water. After a survey drill on levels above confirmed an underground pond, the dwarves built an accessway to the east edge of the pond and prepared a sluice to pour its water into. The sluice would return water to the long-dry ponds around the area, at the same time draining the underground pool to a manageable depth.
  
  Once the pond was sufficiently drained, the dwarves labored at risk of life and limb to entice its inhabitants out into traps. At long last, and three dwarves the deader for it, the pond was cleared of dangerous beasts. This legendary artifact, "Temptclans the True Greennessses of Charring", a granite grate, marks the occasion for all time.
  
  Yes, the triple "s" is actually in the artifact's name! - Noble Digger

• 15. 13. The Burial Face

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  As death is no stranger to this fortress, the east-facing edge of the mountain was declared holy and set aside for the burial of the honored dead. Iron sarcophagi overseen by silver statues of the departed enclosed within the solid obsidian walls by a carved obsidian door mark the final resting place of Cagemerchant's dwarves.
  
  To the north, smaller and simpler tombs contain lead sarcophagi behind a microcline door and serve as a place for dwarves to honor their deceased beloved pets. Two cats murdered in goblin sieges are thusly interred. Foul goblins!

• 14. 17. The Harvestworks

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  In this massive soil cavern is stored a nation's wealth of food and drink. Numberless barrels lined up from wall to wall on either side of the six well-groomed farm plots sculpted from the black sand.
  
  Black bronze and rose gold workshops lined up at the south end of the cavern (currently removed due to construction--they are being moved two tiles north) process plants and create the wealth of kings: good food and drink.
  
  Below are three stockpiles: two massive additional food stockpiles, and a massive store for empty bags and barrels. The dwarves find this convenient! - Noble Digger

• 14. 20. The Waterworks Sluiceway

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  The Lurking Deep was drained into this sluice, which connects to all of the dry ponds across the sandy wilderness. The sluice, too, has long since dried up and become overgrown with tower-caps.
  
  Until the cave river is discovered, the sluiceway will not likely see water again. - Noble Digger

• 13. 14. The Flood Halls

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  As luck would have it, the Lurking Deep naturally had two tiles of area that jutted down 1 level below the rest, These two tiles are going to serve as a floodgate hookup point and I'm going to drain the rest of the water down here once I find the cave river.
  
  This large room will be wetted down to grow tower-caps and will have drains directly to the chasm. The cave river will be pumped and fed into the Lurking Deep which will retain the ability to drain down to the Flood Halls. - Noble Digger

• 13. 16. The Ossuary

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  The nameless, numberless bones of deceased vermin and invaders are stored uncerimoniously in this huge room. The Ossuary extends below and shall continue to extend as needed to house the dearly departed until a use can be found for their offal.
  
  The east and west wings of the ossuary store furniture and the north wing is empty. - Noble Digger

• 12. 15. The Busty Crag

  ( 15 Mid Autumn to onwards )
  Three iron grates span the floor between sides--to the north, a massive armor and weapons stockpile rife with old, stinking, bloody goblin plate armor. Weapons of varying quality and state of repair point in all directions.
  
  To the south, a trio of simple rock staircases spiralling downward. From below, dry, scentless air rushes up periodically, the breath of an ancient, sleeping rift in the earth. The occasional, otherworldly screech of a giant bat echoing into thirty fragments, depriving the sane mind a confident guess at the number of beasts swooping below. Gremlins peal with laughter in the shadows, picking at rat bones and tormenting spiders. And the spiders, of course, toiling near-silently in the dark to weave their precious webs.
  
  To the east and west lie small, single-tile hole drains leading down into the chasm. Tapping into three bedrooms each at the corners, these drains ensure that the bottom level here is difficult to flood. - Noble Digger
