Newcastle - 106 Mid Autumn by Mrok Girl

Map Description:

Hello and welcome to Newcastle. This fortress is built for two purposes. One: to find out how good is the new coding in .40d9 and see if I can finally do some really big projects on my laptop and two: to have some fun when our rp game of Mage: the Awakening is on hiatus. All the dwarves here (except some of the kids) are named after the PCs and NPCs from the game.

Point of Interest: Designation for chamber B

This is chamber B. I have restricted myself to only have two magma falls on the north side. Haven't decided on the number of waterfalls yet, must see if this works first. Not sure what to do with the river too :) - Mrok Girl

Black line, something to do with DF exporting the map before compressing.

Yes, I love circles :)
And yes, I did intend to name it after Newcastle in UK. It's where our rp game of Mage: the Awakening is taking place. All the dwarves here (except some of the kiddies) are named after the player characters and the NPCs from that game of which you can read here.

Thanks for the comments!

I just noticed the scale of the dig... *fast forwards a year*

... cave pool in the way, planning to move that? :)
Seemingly epic construction, I just found the existing tower at the end of a long tunnel. How old is this fort?

About.. 5 years? Can't remember if it starts in 100 or 101.

Still not sure what to do with the cave pool. I want to get rid of it from there but it's also a nice source of cave lobster shell. I have time untill the big cavern is dug out to decide.

8 FPS now with the traders and goblin ambushers around... this will take forever ^^'

You could clear everyone out, drain the pool to the bottom of the chamber, then rebuild the broken section. Perhaps turn that section of ramps at the bottom into a little island. It would be fun for an adventurer to look around!

Why is it all made of stairs?

Submitted by: Mrok Girl - 2009-02-25 to 108 Mid Spring

It's made of stairs so that hollowing it out will be safer and easier. It takes more time than ramps but at least this way I can see where I'm going :)

The dome is amazing, but I think my favorite highlight is the "ZY" carved several z-levels into the ground.

Chamber B is coming along very well, the central support is a work of art its its own right.

Do you only see a blank space?

You can download the compressed map file: 2009-02/mrokgirl-Newcastle-region16-106-26456.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
