Pickden - 312 Early Winter by atlasrune

Map Description:

My attempt at a natural feeling fortress, with a dwarfmade cave river/waterfall system.

Point of Interest: 6 Fingers Forge and Resort

After losing one of my starter dwarves to a fire imp, i decided to wall off and start building a system of forges without the ability to get killed by the remaining magma man.

With these installed grates, nothing is getting in or out of the magma without my express permission. - atlasrune

Oh wow, was my reaction upon following your water shaft down.

Beautiful. Love both the underground river/lake and the cavern-like rooms you've carved out. One question though: what are those waterwheels powering? I trace the axle down the waterfall and find.... nothing?

They're powering a stack of screw pumps, which alternate in this tileset between a blank looking tile and a set of barrels...

Where does the water drain out?

Submitted by: atlasrune - 2009-05-31 to 312 Early Winter

It doesn't drain out, I've got gates at the top to stop the flow in of water from the streams, and the screw pumps circulate the water once it hits the bottom.

Really like the style of this. My fortresses are always so uniform. The underground river is really good to

This is a beauty. It's kind of a preemptive design for the new version with the massive caves.

Its just the beta cave, I'm building one much bigger, with growing tower cap forests along the sides of the river.
