Year 9 of Construction
This year the carpenter gave birth twice more. Looks like we are experiencing a population boom :D Using dwarf manager, we put last year's child to work, but it seems she can't do any hauling.
The dwarves spent this year clearing out the stone from the sprinklers and doing some rather unnecessary construction on the fortifications outside. It seems I will have to breach the surface with the tower if I want to use up the blocks I am generating.
Built Blocks: 3844
The Challenge: Construct a mega fortress without immigrants!
We seriously have too many blocks... - Jong89

The entrance design is a no-frills air lock and maze combo. When the alarm is sounded, the yellow bridge is shut to force invaders to pass the numerous traps in the maze, while fleeing dwarves can still safely escape. The fortified walls enable marksdwarves to shoot at any goblins that manage to avoid the traps.
The roads are all constructed out of floors, so there is ample room for trap growth.
Of special note is the funnel traps used to force invaders outside the fort to follow a set path. Traps placed at the chokepoints are far more effective than normal.
The pressure plate / spike trap is specially design to combat mass charges. The spikes are capable of piercing any number of creature on tile, so melee soldiers need to avoid fighting in that zone. The spacing also knocks out invaders adjacent to the triggering one. - Jong89

Here are the modest accommodations of the dwarves. It will probably be a long time before we start work on the living spaces of the fortress. - Jong89

Here is the sprinkler system currently under construction.
This system is devised so that I can deliver small amounts of water to any section of the chamber I desire.
The idea is that I can remove the dead shrubs and saplings and re-muddy the floor without having to flood the entire chamber and generating lots of drowned plants in the process, which would kind of defeat that purpose.
The digging has generated about 1000 stone though, which is of some concern. It will probably take a few seasons to work though the whole lot. - Jong89

Here is the skyway system under construction. The main walkways are to be larger and higher than the smaller walkways. There is also going to be decorative pillars in addition to the access stairs.
Actually they shouldn't be called skyways at all since its underground... - Jong89

The tower cap chamber is basically complete. There are planned and incomplete additions, such as the skyways, and the canals, plus figuring out what to do with the magma pipe section, but all the planned tower cap zones are in place.
Once the sprinklers are completed, we can flood the chamber. Of course, not entirely... - Jong89
