Wandertower - 1065 Mid Summer by msallen

Map Description:

By the end of the winter my food had run much lower than I expected. But we made it through with a little food and booze to spare. Now that I have two farms in production and a number of competent farmers, the food is rolling in and I am no longer concerned with it. My only frustration now is that I had a number of trappers immigrate, but I don't know how (or if) hunting works. I have a butcher shop and a stockpile for corpses next to it. But the ground outside is littered with dead groundhogs and I have yet to butcher a single one.

I kept my miners very busy, and as a result they have become quite skilled. I was also fortunate to receive 2 more miner immigrants as well, so I've got a nice fortress carved out for myself. I've had a lot of bad experiences with poor planning, but I feel like the arrangement I have now is good. My generic, 9x12 rooms are quite flexible in how they allow me to place my industry, and I like that. Also, this is the first time I've managed to house my dwarves in private rooms instead of barracks, which I am proud of.

In past games I was frustrated and confused by strange moods, but I finally got lucky with an easy one. One of my trappers, possibly due to his obsession with skeletons, made himself a legendary bone shield and became a bonecrafter. It was all far more simple than what I have had to deal with before with moods (particularly metalsmiths). He just grabbed a workshop and a fish bone and went to town.

Shiny. Nice entrance, still waiting to flood it I presume? Lost anyone to floods yet?

No, for some reason the pathing algorithm rarely leads dwarves into the channels and it was much easier to flood than other versions I've made. I think because dwarves are only interested in getting outside and then back across the bridge. In the next map you'll see I flooded it so I could build the bridges across it. One dwarf got caught in that flood, but he managed to stagger out onto dry land. Hopefully when I flood it for good everyone will live.

Yes, legendary dining rooms are that easy to get, remember its a shared one, as apposed to a single dining room for a noble. Just imagine, the engravings across the dining room floor are a sight to be hold across the kingdom. ;)

If you're still wondering about how to collect dead groundhogs, try o:Orders r:Refuse o:Collect Outside Refuse. Butcher-dwarves will then gather dead animals & butcher them, everything else gets tossed on the refuse pile. (mmm mmm macaque meat!)
