Peakedlashes - 202 Late Summer by mattmoss

Map Description:

For fun, I embarked into a somewhat random (choosing only to have magma), 3x3 area with the standard crew (the dwarfs and equipment you get when you select "Play now!"). I didn't want the perfect arrangement or equipment; I wanted to work for it.

And work is what these dwarfs have done. They found a wonderful volcano cavity to begin construction. Temporary workshops and storage are kept on a ledge 6-7 levels above the magma, while a few other workshops are kept down near the magma's surface.

It was decided that a tower of glass suspended above the magma was the perfect dwarfly dwelling for this area. Of course, there will be in-the-earth areas, but only accessed through the glass tower. Work was immediately begun harvesting scarce sand and creating glass blocks for the tremendous project.

Two fire imps that jumped out were quickly disposed, but the third caused quite a disturbance. One resting working was set on fire and died (our only casualty thus far!) before the imp was defeated, but a stray lizard carried the fire to the outdoors, setting some elks on fire, all of who wandered into our area and died. Right on the food stockpile. Dwarfs quickly isolated the fire, though some booze was lost... and the smoke from the burning carcasses lasted a long time. The fourth and final imp was destroyed by the new formed wrestling team, all skilled champions now.

And the tower of glass has begun! It is being built glass block by glass block from the bottom up. A few blocks have been laid near the temporary stockpiles to indicate where future traders will enter the glass tower.

Point of Interest: Temporary Camp

This is where the dwarfs initially setup shop. Food stores, some furniture and trade goods, wood logs, butcher, still, kitchen, tanner, leatherworker, carpenter, trade depot and more. This is keeping our population alive while we build the tower proper.

Note that we have a trade depot to attract merchants, but my dwarfs have been less than honest, simply "borrowing" all that the merchants have brought. I am encouraging them to trade properly in the future. - mattmoss
