After a goblin ambush in Summer 144 (resulting in the prone & unconscious human marksman next to the depot), I decided that it was finally time to get some rudimentary defenses online. These yet-to-be-built stonefall traps are later discarded in favor of a more controlled entrance along the northeast edge of the trench that now surrounds the embark point.
Before that happens, though, the marksman regains consciousness just long enough to stagger two tiles northeast before his wounds (severed left arm, mangled upper right arm) cause him to pass out. On the stonefall trap. And die. So that I can sell his armor back to the same humans that brought him here. Suckers.
On another note, you can see that I've brought the refuse piles inside and significantly stepped up the food production. Cooking two caravans' worth of meat and spices does that, even despite setting fish, booze, seeds, and underground crops to no-cook. The kitten closest to the stairs is standing on top of (or possibly inside of) the mixed-animal cage. The lever southeast of that is intended for the bridge that will provide wagon access. - Sigma

Yup. I'm holding off on more elaborate shenanigans until I've finished the megaproject. Which could be awhile, given that I'm (trying to) limit my dwarf count.

Worst tileset I've seen to date. Favorited nonetheless, because this fort gives me ideas.
