The underground is breached! It is a suprisingly quiet place, with no sign of fauna. Cages and traps have been set at the entrance anyway. Six suits of metal armor have been constructed, and soon military training will begin, switching in and out everyone in the fort in a series of rotating squads. My plans for the underground are to secure the whole area, mine out new paths, and open up new areas for farming, workshops, and housing. Slowly the dwarves will move underground.
Miners are hurridly clearing out new spaces and digging a path around the edge of the area to set new boundaries. - Markavian

When you strike a cavern, what are you going to do with it?

When I hit the caverns... I'm going to trap the hell of it it (cages, spinning blades), and send in heavily armoured recruits on patrols...
I'll set up a new perimeter, and then dig downwards, down further this time...

Also, If you strike HFS, it doesn't matter if you block them or not, they will RUIN your FPS.

I was looking at "The Staircase", and it came to me: Cage Traps!!!
I was so used to ignoring them as "making the game too easy" in 40d, that I completely forgot about this alternative in protecting the route into the underworld now that my military is not so godly anymore.
