Using a Pump by Markavian

Movie Description:

This is new for me, but this video demonstrates using a pump to remove floodwater from an underground farm.

Pump is built to operate from west to east. Operator stands on the west tile and begins to operate pump. Water is lifted up from the tile below and left and spurted out to the right.

In future it may be safer to put the pump on a raised platform between two channels so that water falling out of the pump does not flow back onto the user. Frankly, its all a bit messy.

If you put a water wheel over a channel in those three squares below the dwarf then the pump will start running as soon as the water level reaches a certain level. You could also use a windmill since you just need to get the floors wet right?

Hey Tinker, yes, I could put a water wheel in there, but in latest version of the fort I've gone with windmills by each of the pumps. The south pumps (three of them now), which remove water from the farm, are on permanently. The north pump is now lever activated, with floodgates to block access to theives. You can see more detail if you go look at the map, Axegear.
