Foresthold - 104 Early Spring by timmeh

Map Description:

Another year gone by. I capped the population, as I've screwed myself over by building too close to the edge, and I'm still trying to figure out where I can build more bedrooms and dining rooms.

A good bit of work was finished though, with the gatehouse built, a set of guard towers nearly finished, the road is about half way to the edge, and loads more...

On the other hand, I lost another dwarf, this time to the goblins. My Legendary Woodcutter was ambushed, and despite his bravery, did not survive. That being said, he and his dog probably saved the fortress, and killed half the ambush force...

Also new is the different tileset, which is a combination of several popular tilesets, created for my personal preferences, and allowing me to take advantage of angled walls.

Point of Interest: 12. Basement Floor 3

The new prison is situated in the very bottom of the fortress. The rooms to the east of the stairs are the dining room, office, and bedroom of our new sheriff.

Each of the other rooms has two jail cells, that consist of a metal chain, allowing the prisoner to reach a bed, and drink stockpile. The prison cells have been smoothed to prevent imprisoned dwarves from getting depressed, and I plan to engrave one wall in each room, to give them something to look at.

Each of the three rooms with jail cells in them, also have two small closets, which I do not currently have a use for. - timmeh

Lookin good so far. What's with the logs in the river?

I really like the spiral staircase design!

I suspect that the logs in the river fell in during moat construction: trees prevent channelling, so the trees were ordered to be chopped... then channels were designated before the logs got hauled off. I wish dwarves would move logs/stones away from the dig site like they do when placing workshops!

Anyway timmeh, it's a good solid aboveground fort. If I were on this map I'd be very worried about trees growing to block my wagon access. Are you planning to build a road? Will it be lined with watch-towers, or will the edges be sprinkled with traps?

@juice - Thanks!

The logs are, like Jurph suggested, from loose logs being on the tiles when they were mined.

@ Jurph - Thank you! I'm considering using a smaller version for the towers.

I've started a road (thanks for the reminder!). I plan to get some watchtowers along the road, probably connected to the fortress by underground tunnels, and with no other way in/out, to prevent unwanted access through the tunnels.

Thanks again, to both of you!

I like your eight towers along the road, perfect to impress those barbarian humans and elves.
I don't particularly like the smoothed floor tiles for this tileset though, they look too raised, if you know what I mean.

Its so... flat, at least on the surface! Very cool space you've sealed off though, and everything is building down towards an epic fort.
