Lashedwines - 243 Early Autumn by martin

Map Description:

Year 43 of Morul's challenge. He's on the bottom level which was omitted to keep the file size down.

Point of Interest: Main entrance

This entrance is virtually unassailable.

The long tunnel with side drawbridges allows traders to be cut off from pursuing orcs and the magma retracting bridge provides full safety for traders. The ballista is exceptional quality and the pile of bolts behind it is 600 deep. Cats keep the kobolds from getting inside undetected. Above the trade depot is room for 3 marksdwarves and more bolts than the fortress would ever need.

Morul arranges for 2-3 orc squads to get trapped in the tunnel (another drawbridge at the far end) and then slips out the back exit, kills any untrapped orcs, and then clears out the tunnel preventing any escape. - martin

Oh, too bad. I wanted to the killing fields where Morul gained legendary ambusher.

Wow! The fortress is almost as interesting as Morul himself.

Δ 20. Burial
The pit is the center of the fortress, so we honor the fallen by suspending them above the pit itself. Coffins on the vertical axis are for dwarves, along the horizontal are for pets.

The glass walls are replaced once the fallen are at rest, but can be visited from the stair rooms. - martin

Δ 17. Bedrooms
Standard bedrooms for my this design, which is a variant on my efficient design. The bedrooms are 2x3 with exceptional obsidian furniture. Keeps them pretty happy. - martin
Δ 17. Chasm Trapping
Morul trained up on trapping and handled milking and animal dissection here. The location was ideal since he could trap fire snakes at the top and maggots and cave spiders at the bottom. - martin
Δ 17. Dining Platforms
Each floor has one. The platform is made of soap, with green glass catwalks leading out, alternating on each floor. The open air extends top to bottom through the bottomless pit. Exceptional obsidian tables/chairs and exceptional steel statues provide for a lovely open-air dining opportunity. Clear glass windows on the staircase rooms provide a pleasant view across the fortress. Food and booze is a bit of a walk, but doesn't get trampled in that location. Each staircase room and dining area is accessed via masterwork obsidian doors. All other doors are exceptional obsidian. Lots of happy thoughts whenever dwarves travel.

The open center is unique to this fortress. Normally those are normal rooms with the same connection to the rest of the fortress. - martin
Δ 15. Fish trapping
It didn't work out quite as expected, but this area was set up for fishing and fish dissection. When the river emptied, two walled off regions were set up to the west so Morul could fish the swamps. - martin
Δ 8. Kings Quarters
Nothing too exciting - 4 9x9 rooms, mostly obsidian, stuffed of exceptional and masterwork engravings and masterwork obsidian furniture. Easy to get to royal rooms that way. Outside are the stockpiles of of masterwork furniture. - martin
Δ 7. Barracks
This entire floor is dedicated to the military. 4 barracks, either for sleeping or sparring are provided - armor stands indicates sleeping, weapon rack fighting (some day they'll respect that) Adamantine statues mark entrance to the barracks, with sparring weapons stockpiled outside and bolts for the archery range. Beyond the barracks are stockpiles for bolts, armor, and weapons. Moruls masterwork adamantine armor is stored in the center room on the far right. The dining platform and stair rooms have no access, so the only way in or out is from the bedroom staircase and through the barracks. Any kobold that can get to Moruls armor is welcome to take it.

That stockpile of bolts at the very bottom center are almost entirely exceptional/masterwork adamantine. - martin
