• Δ 17. Air/Sun hole
  I put this floor hatch covered hole in so that I could open it and dwarfs would stay out of my ballista's firing zone when assigned to stay indoors. I've had mixed success and have taken to just restricting the traffic in the main corridor during a siege. Still lets in fresh air when we're all buttoned up, I imagine. - Grayboy
• Δ 17. Catapult Towers
  These catapult towers have been firing nonstop since they went in, but have been less effective than my ballista. Basically, all they've given me is like six legendary siege operators. The stairs go straight down to my main stone stockpile with no access from the courtyard. - Grayboy
• Δ 16. Outdoor Farms
  My upper level of agriculture for growing those pesky above-ground crops. Wish I had put more plots in, but I'm pretty boxed in now, and I've barely got the dwarfpower to work these anyways. Currently in the process of covering the whole outdoor area with green glass. - Grayboy
• Δ 16. Windmill Array
  I never EVER have enough power to operate all the machinery I've got in the depths. Currently expanding the array from its original eight to twenty. Which will be enough power unless I want to turn everything on at once, by my calculations. - Grayboy
• Δ 15. Dragon Turret
  Actually, I caught two dragons, of opposite genders no less, but conveniently this little lady decided to kill my tame dragon before wandering into a cage trap. The doors between her and the fortifications are released by the locked up orthoclase lever to the west, and I sometimes keep her in the marble building outside to the east which serves the same purpose as where she is now. - Grayboy

  I put some unclaimed beds next to the wells in hopes that wounded dwarfs would accumulate, but they seem to prefer their own impossibly distant rooms or the barracks regardless. - Grayboy
• ¶ 15. Main Entrance
  Heavily redesigned after the catastrophic siege of 214, the trap corridor to the east being the newest addition. Archers have access to the battlements all around the courtyard, ballista has line of sight on anything remotely near, and there are four lines of floodgates to slow down any building destroyers that make it through the traps. Incidentally, the bridge over the moat has claimed more dwarfish lives than it has saved in my estimation. - Grayboy
• Δ 15. Stone. STONE.
  No quantum stockpiles for me. Once I started expanding into the depths, I dug out everything on this level I wasn't occupying to make some stone storage. I think I'm going to have to build a giant statue or something. - Grayboy
• Δ 15. Treasury
  I regret minting coins so much. But, what's done is done, and here's where I keep the ones that aren't spread throughout the fortress. At least I can seal it off. - Grayboy
• Δ 15. Waterfall
  Waterfall and meeting hall, and my dining room/barracks for the first year. Took a lot of experimenting, but I finally got the waterfall to be self regulating with pressure plates. Most of the time. Currently disabled due to power shortage. - Grayboy

  I can't even remember how many times I've had to drain this whole area and redesign it, but through trial and error, I've gotten it all to be mostly self-regulating. My moats, well water supply, waterfall, farm irrigation, fishing sites, and even some obsidian manufacturing are all hooked up to one big system with one intake path to the brook. Saved me some grates, I guess. - Grayboy
• Δ 13. Abandoned Stairway
  Originally, I was going to try to NOT have a giant central stairway, but in digging my second, I struck magma, and I got pretty caught up in getting actual forging online, so now we have one stairway and this aborted thing. - Grayboy
• Δ 13. Workshops
  Some of the food workshops are scattered on higher levels and the smelters deeper, but this is where the real action is. Each cell is devoted to a particular industry, and the one to the direct Southeast has been re-purposed for more complicated plumbing. - Grayboy
• Δ 11. Noble Recreation Area
  Sometimes, nobles keep you on your toes and provide an interesting additional challenge for your more useful dwarfs. For every other time, there's magma. - Grayboy
• Δ 10. Magma
  I had all these rooms and corridors all dug and occupied, not knowing there was a magma pipe about two squares away. Some dwarfs were relocated to allow my forges to go in, but if there hadn't been magma RIGHT THERE, this place would be so symmetrical and well designed, I SWEAR. - Grayboy
• Δ 9. Crypts et cetera
  I had about two of these ten-dwarf chambers dug out and occupied until 214, when I lost 75+ dwarfs to siege and foul temper. Work basically stopped except for digging these out, but I don't think anybody rotted and I'm quite proud of that. To the east we've got where I keep malcontents and victims of noble silliness, to the south, the silly nobles themselves. - Grayboy
• Δ 8. Incinerator
  That's GOBLIN incinerator, not my regular incinerator a few levels up. I got tired of hauling all those cloth and bones to the dump, so I put this in to more efficiently dispose of the fruits of my many cage traps. In the unlikely event I run out of narrow giant cave spider silk miscellaneous, I've still got the old arena right next door. - Grayboy
• Δ 5. King's Complex
  I locked my legendary engraver in each of these rooms, so they are indeed royal while being fairly sparse. What is in there though is all platinum, aluminum, steel or gold. To the east is the artifact lever activating my magma death machine to incinerate the surface world. Many times secured, of course. - Grayboy
• Δ 4. Dining Hall
  I moved my dining room downstairs after many years of having it right next to the entrance. This one has enough floor space to support my 200+ population for regular operation. Food and refuse stockpiles are just across the hall for convenience, and animal pens are just to the north. - Grayboy
• Δ 3. THE cat PIT
  All cats go here. Those that have already claimed dwarf slaves are more than enough to exterminate all vermin. Occasionally, they get out when I pluck out some kittens or something, but never undetected, as they fully halve my frame rate when loose. - Grayboy

  Sometimes, you just have to make something go squish. If the drop doesn't kill it, the spear traps will. - Grayboy
