Diamondseizures - 266 Late Autumn by Retro

Map Description:

Got a little wave of nostalgia the other day, so I went back and uploaded my very first fortress, Diamondseizures. It ended up being surprisingly successful, and also had the best randomly generated name I've found yet. I don't think I've touched it since June or July.

I advise you to check out the Goblin Run POIs. They're the closest thing to a megaproject this fort had.

Point of Interest: Goblin Run 5: Spikes and Bridges

Admissively incomplete, this part of the run is the most likely one for the few remaining goblins to get wounded in. The idea was that goblins had to run from the to-left to the bottom-right, but the ground would be littered with one-spike spike traps and many bridges, all hooked up to the same three repeaters from before. The pathfinding would cause them to run all over the place (and those who fell would have to start all over), and the spikes would randomly cut them up.

The last handful of wounded, limping survivors would make it to the last part of the trap: The drowning chamber (see next POI) - Retro

Love the firey miner mural; a blazing work of art.

So does the Goblin Run work? Any chance you could upload a video of it in action?

It... sort of works. Hooking up all the repeaters to all the different bridges and spike traps and whatnot was taking godsdamned forever, so I gave up on that. Currently the goblins run straight through the labyrinth, across the magma largely unassailed by the lazy marksdwarves, stand around while the eagles ignore them, run across the incomplete bridge/spike room, and then generally outrun the flooding room. The whole process takes like half an hour, so no, I won't be taking a video, but I tried it out a few times and it was kind of disappointing anyways. Needs way more micromanagement than I have time for to hook everything up.

You can download the compressed map file: 2010-02/retro-Diamondseizures-Diamondseizures-266-27167.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.
