Battle rages in the caves as a new entrance is opened and the legions of Forgotten Beasts waiting on the other side try their luck.
Nelara Omethucethutha (say that after a few pints) Rofeloareme. A huge humanoid composed of clear glass. It has an enormous shell and it undulates rhythmically. Beware its webs!
It also has no arms and no feet left, its enormous shell is smashed, its body is smashed open in many places and it really, really ought to be dead. My militia commander has been belabouring it with his axe (he keeps renaming the axe - it's had about seven or eight names so far, it's like he's hitting it over and over again, pauses to catch his breath and shouts out Kodfongbez Akest Ziril, I choose you! before going back for another try.) The dead guys are from the rest of the squad, most of which is dead, a couple of the corpses have been removed - despite having no arms or legs, the beast is still fighting and killing the recruits despite their steel armour cap-a-pied.
I'm starting to think that the militia commander will need to fight the beast all the way up the central stairway and throw it off a mountain to win... :)
I've put an emergency production order in for steel spears, but I suspect that any new recruits I send down there will end up dead.
Things aren't helped by the remaining Forgotten Beasts in the cave - a giant spider has already been slain (the militia commander took time out from hitting Nelara to kill it) but there's a ceratopside monstrosity and some flying beastie on the loose as well. And more in the shadows, I think.
I suppose it's possible that due to the injuries this creature may fall victim to traps, so I might try to lure back to the entrance if the spear squad die. - Ambivalence
