Δ 58. The original entrance.
This was the original entrance to the fort. It was moved in 557 to support a more military friendly entrance. Even though this wasn't the best defensible position it still served its purpose with an Artifact Weapon Trap (literally a trap component artifact) holding serve as the first line of defense (plus whatever two unfortunate creatures I chained up there) for many seasons. - moontayle
¶ 57. The actual entrance
Created in Year 557 as a means to be more military friendly it has served its purpose well. There are a series of 1x1 bridges attached to a lever in the dining hall that will form walls, creating a deadly pathway for any intruder to walk should they wish to get inside. At the end of the path is the room where the military would be stationed. Not all of the traps were in place when a siege arrived in Winter of 557. But the hallways proved to be too much and the slaughter was unbelievable. The goblin general Osnun Suslaaslot met her fate here and the body rotted accordingly.

Δ 55. Mist Making Machine
This semi-elaborate setup is my mist-making machine. One level down in the meeting area/Legendary Dining Hall. It rotates a single tile of 6/7 water around in a circle. It drops just long enough to product mist but not anything else. Keeps most dwarves with a permanent happy thought (comforted by waterfall lately) which is usually enough to counteract the usual unhappy thoughts. - moontayle
Δ 55. Original Barracks w/ expansion
This was the original barracks created when the greater threats came from topside. Currently the lower one serves as the training/sleeping area for my squad of Macedwarves while the upper one serves the same function for the Speardwarves. The Macedwarves are out on patrol (7 of 10 required) which is why you only see one at the moment.

The upper one used to be the Jail before that was moved. Changed and expanded in 557 to add a barracks for the Speardwarves. - moontayle
Δ 54. Dining Hall
Extravagant beyond words. The nooks are filled with native gold statues and an artifact floodgate is installed on the left side of the room. The Elves left almost all of their possessions one year after surviving an ambush so I stuck the critters here as well. The red statues are actually diorite but they're covered in mud now from the mist machine. They're placed where the water drops so the dwarves don't get wet. The top lever is the bridge lever for the entrance, the bottom is the floodgate lever for the cistern.

I won't POI it but you can easily see the food stockpile. It's reached a sort of equilibrium now, not really getting any bigger but not shrinking very much either. - moontayle
Δ 54. Farming and Food Industry
Drained the pond up top into this area for my farming needs and added spots for the various food industry workshops. Currently have two breweries going full bore (182 dwarves drink enough to keep a perpetual amount of barrels at the ready) as well as two kitchens. The cage between the Farmer's Workshop and the Butchery is the quantum cage for useless animals. - moontayle
Δ 54. Guard Barracks
This is the barracks for the Fortress Guard. Currently the population of the Guard is at 4 dwarves out of 10. Early sieges forced a few of these guys into action before they had been properly equipped and trained so the rest are in the Hospital and have been for years. I did eventually replaced the Captain of the Guard with a Legendary Marksdwarf that came with the Queen, hence the stockpile for arrows and the archery target. - moontayle
Δ 53. Workshop level
Pretty standard here. Huge pile for the refuse which I routinely cull the useless crap from once the miasma stops (srsly, need to fix corpse decay). Pretty much have everything here. Even have a Soap Workshop but I've had a managed order for 30 bars that's been sitting at 10/30 completion since 553 (srsly, fix putting lye in a barrel). There's a kennel at the end of the hall just out of sight. Oh, and the quantum stone pile is right there with the gold nugget.

Oh, and you can't see it but there's a road here... made of Raw Adamantium. Hey, had to impress the King ya know! - moontayle
Δ 52. Hospital/Cistern
First level of the Hospital which is fully stocked except for Gypsum powder which, for some odd reason, won't get stored here. Currently there are three patients sitting here, none of whom can walk anymore and just lie there.

The cistern used to be 7/7 all the way but years of use has dropped it down a little. That's the only reason I haven't torn down the lever in the dining hall yet since I figure sometime in the distant future they'll need to refill it. It has a pretty decent well in the center which gets plenty of use. - moontayle
Δ 51. Second Hospital
Just a second area designated as a hospital. Mostly stocked as well (missing soap for some reason). Currently 4 dwarves resting here for lack of being able to walk. One needs surgery but since that's bugged he just keeps on keeping on. - moontayle

Δ 50. Mayor's Area
For the original Expedition Leader and eventual Mayor after a brief stint by a rival. He's been replaced by the Outpost Liaison but the Mayor bug keeps him in some sort of power making role and he continues to make demands. I don't mind since the guy is also my Legendary Weaponsmith. - moontayle
Δ 50. Original Bedroom area
Sixty overall rooms and each dwarf also gets two containers and a cabinet. The three connected room in the lower right hand corner is for one of the phantom mayors. Decided to at least try and keep her happy (even though she loves native copper and there is none on this map). Oh, and there's a series of rooms in the upper left that are for the Captain of the Guard. - moontayle

Randomly picked this level to do the mass mining for stuff. - moontayle
Δ 48. Baron/Count/Duke rooms
I never got the option to appoint a Baron so disappointed these will never get used. They're satisfactory for up to the Duke level. Random dwarves come in here to sleep and get a happy thought from sleeping in a bedroom like a personal palace. So semi-useful. - moontayle
Δ 48. Expansion Bedroom Area
It's a two level apartment type expansion with the standard 2 containers and 1 cabinet for each dwarf. Each section holds room for 27 dwarves so 108 overall dwarves are housed here (not counting marriages where two share a bedroom). - moontayle

Had to add a native gold statue to each room to bring them up to spec but whatever. - moontayle
Δ 46. Toady Project - Top Level - King's Rooms
The piece d'resistance of my fort, a four level structure built in the magma vent area.

The top level is the King's Room and they are extravagant beyond words. Each piece of furniture is made of Raw Adamantium and the bed is an Artifact made out of Raw Adamantium. Each room is walled in with Green Glass Windows from which a pump stack pumps up Magma and filters it around the overall structure making it a place worthy of Toady. - moontayle
Δ 45. Toady Project - Second Level - Jail/Hammerer Rooms
Since I never got a Baron I also never got a Hammerer so these rooms go unused. They're much less extravagant than the King's Rooms upstairs but they serve the purpose of putting the most feared dwarf in a spot where he can brood until the next hammering.

The jail is also here. Seemed like the best place to put it. - moontayle

Have not received the option of appointing a General yet but if/when it appears these are the rooms that he will use. - moontayle
Δ 44. Toady Project - Third Level - Tomb of Fallen Dwarves
This is where all dwarves in the fortress are laid to rest. The statues tell you what type of dwarf is housed here. Platinum for Military Dwarves who put their life on the line in defense of the fort. Gold for Guards, who did the same but are less active than the ones in the military. Silver for useful dwarves who perish by some means (i.e. missing materials for a mood). And finally, Copper for the Peons and any Children who perish. 19 dwarves have met their fate in Workeddriven and are honored here. - moontayle
Δ 44. Trapped Forgotten Beast
This sad sap had the misfortune of spawning between two trees. He's killable so it's not like it's doing me a favor by being unable to reach me. That said, when I'm waiting for things to happen in the fort I sometimes come here and break out the Nelson Laugh a few times. - moontayle
Δ 43. Cavern One Barracks
Assigned to my Axedwarf Squad it has a training area, a bedroom, a dining room and a stockpile for food and booze. - moontayle
Δ 43. Magma Industry
Forges, Smelters, Glass Furnaces. Stockpiles for bars (expanded up one level out of necessity), weapons and armor. There's also a bag stockpile one level up that's for sand.

Two entrances into the fort here. Upper one is the original. Lower one was added after I sealed off the magma area when I wasn't sure my project wouldn't flood magma once the pipe filled back up. Entrances guarded by weapon/cage traps and some cougars I bought from the Elves. - moontayle
Δ 43. Toady Project - Final Level - King's Tomb/Menagerie
This is the Tomb of the King, open for all to see. Like the rooms above, all items here are raw adamantium. I also decided to stick the myriad of creatures that walk into my cage traps from the caverns in here. - moontayle
Δ 34. Killing the Unkillable
Very early in the fort's life I had a FB show up in the first cavern. Since it was made of Tiger's Eye it was unkillable so I designed this trap to at least put it down in the second cavern where it couldn't reach me. I set up a one tile wide bridge with a 1x1 bridge set up on each end and then tapped up into the first cavern so that it would take the path. Managed to time it just right for getting it trapped between the two upraised bridges. Then, one level up was a support holding up a huge floor area unconnected to any wall. I pulled a lever set up to the support and everything came crashing down. It ended up killing the FB which is all I really wanted. You can see the corpse if you go down three levels. - moontayle
Δ 33. Another Trapped FB
Had another FB show up in the tile just south of the Tunnel Tube (the purple thing) which meant it was effectively trapped. I mercifully released it from it's spot whereupon it ran straight into my Axedwarfs and died a horrible death. - moontayle
Δ 32. Yet Another Trapped FB
I'm not entirely certain this one can leave the water since there are pathways up into the first cavern that it can take. It remains down here wandering around. - moontayle

Pretty much exactly like the Cavern One Barracks. Less is stocked here but it doesn't seem to be a problem. - moontayle
