Chasmcity - 270 Early Winter by belannaer

Map Description:

This is my current fort I'm working on. It has been running for 18 years now. Original idea was to have a above surface fort with magma moat and massive walls surrounding it but it has evolved a lot since.

Point of Interest: Center of the fortress

( 270 → 500 )

This is the center of the fortress where we originally embarked. The wagon is now housed in a temple where 7 statues of masterwork gold depicting the original seven surround the wagon. On the north side of it is an artifact statue depicting the king of my dwarves and on the south side is an artificat statue of my baroness.

On the left is an aquaduct park (it's surrounded by my small aquaduct) and on the southwest is entrance to the caverns. - belannaer

Stunning work. A great open fortress, clearly planned out, and well executed. I dream of having forts like this, but always get stuck in the details. :)

this is a bloody awesome fort, I'm interested in knowing what defends the long entrance way is it traps, just rely on military, or something more intricate that i haven't noticed

Answer would be something more intricate. When my dwarves pull a lever the entrance is flooded with tons and tons of magma when a bridge under the 3 levels worth of magma cistern is opened. The magma keeps recycling and flowing around because of the pumpstacks pump it up almost instantly when it gets down thus creating continuously flowing wall of magma. Also the bridges close around it to keep it contained and when the levers are pulled again the entrance opens and automatically cleans itself from the magma. It's not originally my idea but copied from http://mkv25.net/dfma/movie-1931-theultimatelavatrap

The titular example of a proper surface fort. Lots of great buildings and use of water. The romans would be proud. :>
