Gearcloud - 1052 Mid Spring by Markavian

Map Description:

Start of the second year... a plague of troglodytes took down a stoneworker before miners sealed off the route. Farming and brewing is up and running; though the setup is pretty basic for now.

Traders accepted cooked plump helmet stew for dinner, in exchange for more plump helmets and a steel anvil.

56. The Staircase

( 1051 Late Spring to onwards )
Fastest feet first down down down into the depths, through the caverns down to the magma. Took me a while to breach the magma sea after digging straight through a pillar of rock. Those tunnels have now been flooded.

Where the route breaches the caverns, the path has been sealed up with rocks to protect against invaders. - Markavian

Central to the fort, farming and brewing is the life blood of the dwarven diet. - Markavian
Δ 39. Seed room + Lever
The seed room is a cool dry place in close proximity to the farm, while being out of the way of fortress traffic. Just outside is the farm flood control; linked to a floodgate on the level below, and then drained using a manual pump to the side. Fortification blocks are used to let water pass in and out of the system while restricting access to underwater creatures. - Markavian

Δ 39. Underground Expanse

This small area of the cavern has been carefully mined away to create an open space into which dwarves can inhabit. In due time the area may be expanded and irrigated to provide fungiwood and towercap trees. - Markavian
39. Cavern Breach 1

The first cavern breach is sealed, and the path moved to avoid the pool of water near by. - Markavian
23. Cavern Breach 2

The second cavern breach was a bit flukey in that it just clipped the edge of an olovine wall, meaning the path could continue straight down, but two layers of walls were needed to block off the surroundings.

However; as soon as the breach was made; a Jaberrer fled to the surface, and was attacked by wardogs. - Markavian
17. Magma Breach

( 1051 Late Spring to onwards )
The magma breach took a while to make, and you can see the exploratory tunnels trying to find a way in. Those have been flooded now as a warning. - Markavian
