• 42. Barracks level

  ( 1057 Late Winter to onwards )
  Troop barracks, weapons storage, hospital, well (with reservoir), archery range and drill squares.
  The idea was that any attacker would have to pass through drill squares and troop barracks before reaching the civilian quarter. In practise this didn't really happen and enemies got through often.
  I've had to modify the original layout to accommodate the shafts from the windmill tree, to power the pump system.
  In retrospect, I would have put the hospital in the civilian quarter, to stop civilians tramping through here. - SoulSkorpion

• 41. Top of the civilian level

  ( 1057 Late Winter to onwards )
  Farms, food storage, booze storage, dining area and crop processing workshops.
  Beds to the east are because this floor is also the "creche" burrow, which all dwarven children and babies are assigned to, in an attempt to stop them wandering loose and being vulnerable to snatchers. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work - it looks like the kids don't respect burrow restrictions.
  To the south is the power linkup from the windmills to the magma pump system and the switch that disconnects the power. - SoulSkorpion

• 39. Workshops

  ( 1057 Late Winter to onwards )
  This fortress is an experiment in trying to maximise efficiency. From the civilian floor down, the fortress is divided up into 7x7 squares with stairs at each corner. The fortress design is modular, with rooms or sections being assigned in 7x7 lots.
  The idea is that workshops can have stockpiles for their input and output on the floors above or below, as well as stockpiles in the 5x5 around them for quick de-cluttering or access to raw materials (as appropriate to the workshop). The bedrooms are also in 7x7 vertical shafts, intended to minimise the distance any one dwarf has to go to get between bedroom, dining room and their workshop. - SoulSkorpion

• Δ 43. The death of a hero
  Here lies the great hero, Likot Wrungworked the Hill of Nourishment.
  He was our greatest champion and yet our only casualty. He rushed headlong into the fray ahead of his comrades and was overwhelmed and slain, despite his artifact armour and weapons. The killing blow was delivered by Smunstu Badfastened, with a copper morningstar. Likot was avenged by his friend and comrade, Mörul Ectocudgel the Hollow Anger of Dents.
  At the time of his death, Likot had 32 notable kills. He had been a resident of Rocktrust since 1054. May Kikrost the Truthful Friends grant him peace in the afterlife. - SoulSkorpion
• ¶ 43. Upgraded entrance

  ( 1065 Early Winter to onwards )
  The surface defenses have been strengthened.
  The outer wall was built to serve as a marshalling area for defending forces. The new main drawbridge has a barrier around it designed to block arrow fire, to minimise the threat of goblin marksmen.
  In the south east corner is a barracks and armoury. Most of the time the soldier sleep in their own rooms in the civilian quarter; this barracks is only used while on alert. - SoulSkorpion

• 42. Advanced training room

  ( 1061 Mid Winter to onwards )
  You can't see it in this shot, but the floor is completely covered in spike traps made from wooden training spears. A switch on the civilian level controls them, and is set on repeat. This has greatly sped up the soldiers' training, and allowed them to become Legendary+5 in hammer, fighting, armour and shield, with dodging gaining modest increases.
  Despite the triple doors, occasionally a cat gets in, hence all the blood. - SoulSkorpion

• 40. The Aftermath of the Tantrum Spiral

  ( 1061 Mid Winter to 1066 Early Spring )
  78/116 of these coffins are in use, counting about ten pets and outsiders. Ouch. There were about 30 survivors of the tantruming and sieges, down from around 100. - SoulSkorpion

• 40. The happy room

  ( 1061 Mid Winter to onwards )
  Built as part of the effort to stop the tantrum spiral. Gold furniture, copper statues, gem glass windows, an artificial waterfall and every buildable artifact in the fortress. Currently dirty with ash. - SoulSkorpion

• Δ 38. High class apartments

  ( 1065 Early Winter to onwards )
  With little better to do, I decided to put in some nice bedrooms. The doors are gold. The design is my own. I found a working dwarf who doesn't detest anything and am training her as the fort's engraver. That way she won't engrave disgusting vermin on the walls. - SoulSkorpion

• 37. Ruined magma pumps

  ( 1061 Mid Winter to 1066 Early Spring )
  A few years ago, voracious cave crawlers started to break down the doors sealing the magma pump system and destroying the pumps themselves.
  Then a forgotten beast appeared and did the same thing.
  Fortunately, the stupid thing burned itself to death when it hit the reservoir. Unfortunately, I had to scramble to pump the magma out into a new holding tank! Luckily I was able to get enough magma to power forges and smelters, right at the last minute. - SoulSkorpion
