Jewelworked - 108 Early Spring by Itnetlolor

Map Description:

This is a new style of fortress planning/building that I decided to undertake. This is primarily done with the guide, and design, of a flowchart system.

After 1 year, I'm surprised at how well it's all working for me. I have a fully-functional build in a year. Another year can be spent refining and fine-tuning it.

Point of Interest: 06 - Industrial District

( 108 Early Spring → onwards )

This is where we gather useful materials, and process them into more useful things. - Itnetlolor

This is the floorplan/flowchart I have the fortress modeled after:

'be practical before being fancy'

One day you might find your play style to be exactly the opposite! At least, once you grow bored with efficiency.

I want to see your completed dining hall!

Actually, being practical first allows for being fancy more quickly, and better manages my resources to distribute accordingly. Basically, if things go how I hope they will, I should have everything, including dining hall plumbing, smoothed and engraved (especially before the water melts and starts flowing) by next post.

Considering water pressures and general setup, including the diagonal pressure regulation, I should still be able to take advantage of what plumbing I will have setup and feed more places with fresh water.

Well, it's quite ineffective, I'd say. You don't need passages of 5 cells wide, and you don't need such big plan.
It will take long for dwarves just to walk here and there - use more of Z-levels.
For using Z-levels you might like a look on my las fortress here - it's very compact and very big at the same time.
But for the sake of "thinking big" it's quite impressive.
