Map Description:

Just my little fortress. Nothing spectacular here. Uploading mainly so I can show some friends without needing a local df installation.

Point of Interest: Dwarf Shower

I decided to forgo the usual perpetual motion device here, on the grounds that I wind up with dozens of soldiers running dry pumps for training, so two more manual pumps didnt really cost me anything.

Note that this is an outside bath in a freezing terrain, so it has to be drained in winter (I keep my dwarves outside where possible to stave off cave adaption). I have 'only' lost one dwarf to ferocious Ice Puddles so far... - kaypy

Δ 22. TunnelSky the phobia of ancient stabilitycheck algorithms
This green glass, fortified catwalk network has been my primary 'insane engineering task' since Delergim got set up enough to spare the manpower for it. Aside from keeping my dwarves busy between sieges, it also allows marksdwarves to perform an 'airstrike' on any location on the home plataux.

Construction is nearly complete, so I will soon need to give my dwarves some new task.

Hmm. Maybe I should add some menacing spikes on top... - kaypy

While trying to decide whether I wanted to attract a king (another noble? what was I thinking?) I started building this to fulfill the road requirement. Gold ore bumped up the road value quite nicely.

My other project is nearly done, and I dont use gold for that much*, so I am starting to extend it further.

It uses ore rather than metal, because the smooth metal road doesnt, in my opinion, look as good. This is also why it uses magnetite instead of steel. That and steel is actually useful, wheras mere iron I have more than I know what to do with.

A previous attempt at defending incoming merchants. This wasnt completely unsuccessful.

A group of merchants, attacked by kobolds, got off with one lost guard and a leg injured merchant. As he limped toward the fortress, I was then able to repel 2 squads of a goblin siege before they could catch up with him.

This, however, revealed the great weakness of the design- I no longer had merchant loot scattered all over the edge of the map, but I had just as much *goblin* loot scattered all over the edge of the map. - kaypy
Δ 17. MerchantSafe the exploit of bridges
The bridges at the edge of the map raise inwards to provide a relatively safe passage for merchants. Built after (a) I got sick of dead merchants on the edge of the map, and (b) I found out you could put bridges there. - kaypy
Δ 16. Animal Pen
This uses different length paths to keep animals pathing towards the left entrance, which is a restricted access passage so dwarves will leave it closed. As you can see by patched and dug out walls, I am still tweaking the design. I think the mass escape I had a while back was due to dwarves grabbing a critter right next to the lefthand door, getting surrounded by the other animals, and going over the restricted area rather than trying to clamber through the pack.

I cant really blame them, although it was rather inconvenient having to pond everything again. - kaypy

You cant see it past the magma, but this entire passage is about 20 constructed fortifications. They didnt slow the fire imps down at all...

On the left, however, you can see my eventual solution to the problem. Amazing what you can accomplish with a bucket of water. - kaypy
Δ 1. Noble disposal room
My graves are dug down on the lowest Z level. Naturally it is easier to get nobles to walk there than to carry them. - kaypy
