Ectosack - 1067 Early Spring by Unbeltedsundew

Map Description:

Here I am a few years later. I'm still cleaning up after the collapse ( a bunch of ledges and whatnot stuck to walls and pillars). I've started to move my military into the rooms up near the depot and have gotten most of the temporay things out of the main hall, most importantly my wood burning and glass making setups.

Except the new version should be realesed today or tommorow and while I'd like to continue this fortress (at least to get the plumbing up and running) I'd prefer to do it in a world I'm going to spend a while in more. So most likely I'll leavce the save for later and move on to toady's new stuff :D

Point of Interest: Vault

For what I imagined would be a secure stronghold of dwarven riches there is an awful lot of traffic here. If I wanted my currency to circulate I wouldn't have built a vault to keep it all to myself would've I?

The Idea here was to have a tower with all the artafacts and really valuable stuff at the top and have a trap where it sealed the outer tower and filled it with water while the inner tower remained nice and dry. I hope Toady makes it so adventurers can deal with traps soon so as to make some of these things more practicle. - Unbeltedsundew

40 dwarfs dead in construction alone... the catheralesc room is most impressive, as are the other areas of the fort.

This is awesome. I think lassie has survived by not being anywhere near the hammerer or the cave in :)

Wow, I was surprised to see one of my maps on the list of cool things. I'm definitely in superior company! Looking back on this map it's got a lot of features I'd like to return to, particularly the fire suppresion system in the food stores... Sadly I misplaced this save I think, so I guess ill have to do it in a new fort.

Points of Interest

¶ 15. Entrance
Well there is far less puke and blood here then normal, its your lucky day!

I think for my next fortress Im going to put the cage traps scattered throughout the wilderness they are just way too powerful in this set up. I think also I'll limit myself to pressure plates or other mechanical traps rather then stonefall or weapon traps, it just seems silly when hundreds of goblins start running away after seeing only a few of their comrade minced up in doomsday mechanisims.

That said I'm not too keen on the military for defence either, probably cause they run around like dolts and get shot up or hacked apart after running off alone. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 15. Wolf trap
(I dont think it works though) The idea is that all these wolves here get released if a kobold or goblin steps on those pressure plates over there. The plates are attached to the bars not the cage, so its reloadable. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 11. Right Transept
This side is mostly done and I put in some skylights as well to help moderate cave adaptation. THese rooms have water as well though not quite in its final form. (the rents on all my rooms are skyrocketing but I'll be damned if I'm not putting glass in all the rooms). - Unbeltedsundew

I drained this badboy out and put in the floodgates and extensions, but the main reason was to repair this wall where it stuck out into the main hallway. Except that its un engraveable and worse then that its muddy.

Δ 3. Drinks
After suffering from a huge fire and exploding barrels in Wavechained I decided it was prudent to store all my flamable dwarf drink in one spot, and plan for a future fire suppresion system at the same time. The room above is going to be filled with water and at the flip of a lever I will be able to save my dwarfs from a hot demise. the two hatches on this level are for draining.

All this is moot though as tempature is turned off... I wish I could run with it on.... - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 3. Monsters
I have no idea what to do with them, and I'm afraid to move them anyways. I've got 2 titans, a hydra, a dragon, and a bronze collosus. (I collapsed some stuff onto the goblins to get rid of them There musta been 50 or so). - Unbeltedsundew

This is the first time I've had shops.. Whee! The storage is being planed around them for easy access. Finished goods and such will be put above the material and furniture stores you can see to the south. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 2. Crypts
I should, barring some catastophy, have enough roomm here for my dwarfs to die happily for a long time. If not I left room for a huge expansion if nessasary. I may even have a chance to put some into the canals on the lvel below this before I get the plumbing up, that would be cool. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 2. Furture Farms
The smoothed out area is going to be filled with water and these off shoots are going to be my farm plots. Except its going to be a while because I have to excavate that huge cavern above here and remove all the stone before I can fill it with water. This is the distillery area the store room there is filled with empty barrels. It takes 1 and a half stills running full time to keep my dwarfs happy (meaning I turn one off and one every so often). - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 2. Workshops
The start of the workshops. I saw someone do this with placeing them in five wide rooms with storage around them and I really liked the idea, it also works fantasticly very effecient. - Unbeltedsundew
