Wardeddike - 432 Late Spring by Unbeltedsundew

Map Description:

I've finally (mostly) finished the huge obsidian bastion. I never knew how tedious building above ground really was, I cant imagine how annoying it was before the multiple building options became available.

This part is just for the military, its got everything it need to self sustain and is going to be attached to the main fort by two bridges, one of which is mostly built.

Point of Interest: Entry Bridge

In the future this will be the only road into the fort not including the sally port in the bastion which will remain closed most of the time. The hatches are all going to be attached to various pressure plates which will dump incoming enemies on to spikes Im going to install underneath. - Unbeltedsundew

Why did you call one of your points of interest "Sally Port"; is that a historical name?

Δ 18. Entry Bridge

Δ 18. Pipe Bridge
THis is going to be the main connection to my main fort in the hills (it hasnt been started yet). It will carry power, and two streams of water for whatever I need them for. It also covers the entry bridge nicely with the fortifications on the top level. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 17. Patrol Level
Plenty of room for my marksdwarfs to patrol in circles, the weapon and ammo storage is up here as well. Also rooms for the Captains office and dining room and for the hammerer as well when he shows up. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 16. Sleeping Quarters
Main Barracks with 28 beds, and the rooms on this level given to champions and the captain of the guard.

The room with the archery targets is the multi purpose training room. (Soldiers keep getting thrown though the holes in the walls into the pools or falling in the wells when training in the sleeping room). Im curious to see how it works out. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 16. The Barracks Bar
Dining room for my dwarfs, all the furniture in here is top notch curtiosy of my founding carpenter, who is still alive. (I lost two of my founder to moods :( they keep wanting rough gems which I just havent found depsite extensive mining opperations).

I'd love to have a bar tender behind the counter, This place is pretty crazy and full, dwarfs singing and standing on tables and serving themselves. Its ok though, only one baby was dropped into the pool and drowned. Theres plenty more where that came from. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 15. Pumping house
Suppling all the water for the fort, including the waterfalls here. As you can see by all the mud coveing my alunite and obsidian floor the waterfalls need some more thought. There are levers to control all the lowere level floodgates and the alunite levers are attached to gears to shut off the main power, and to shut of the north pumps or south pumps. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 15. Sally Port
Two steel Bridges connected to a lever. In the future it will remain closed unless of I want to release the military on invaders.

A note on the invaders: I left the invaders on until 427 or so and turned them off not because I couldn't handle the seiges, but rather that even one or two casualties would cause all 130 dwarfs to loose their damn minds and start a domino effect of death. Now that the Bastion is finished Im going to turn on invaders again. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 14. Quarry and workcamps
All the stone on this level and the levels below was turned into blocks and used for the fortress. The temporary barracks rooms and dining room is still housed here. - Unbeltedsundew
Δ 12. Founders tombs
Whoops, the founders tombs are on the level below here, they arnt yet smoothed out but they have all the bells and whistles. On this level Im thinking of making the regular graveyard. - Unbeltedsundew
