Very nice. I am going to build a spiral downwards in my fort too, so I'm faving this for further reference.

One question though, is it wide enough for caravans to move down?

One thing though, how did you build the shaft of that mushroom apartment on the lake itself? Is there some secret system of dwarven underwater construction that I'm not aware yet?
