Thanks guys. That hole will go to the bottom eventually and be filled with magma! Once I have everything done in this fort Ill collapse it and yes magic dwarf I will definitely record it, Ill also record it when I do the collapse to remove the floors in the hole. I'm sure something entertaining will happen..
The save for this file got corrupted right as I was approaching my two year mark. Don't worry I have the seed and stuff for this map so I will gen another world and get to work right away.
I tried the collumn thing once it didn't work. You make it work though looks cool.
Screw a monument. Draw a mural! Maybe a axe? It would be perfect for the fort title. For extra sweetness channel out whats not part of the mural and fill that with water.. Then it be like a floating mural and the dwarves meet on that.

Is it just me or do those channels in the east look like they could someday be used to flood the valley :P

Depending on how much water is in there and if it wont refill you can just open a door and let the remaining water spill into the fort and dry up.
